Dalvik Gimli HI Hostel

You can feel the ambition in this family-run hostel in the friendly fishing town of Dalvík. It´s the perfect spot for exploring the wonders of Tröllaskagi peninsula and the Eyjafjörður area. From the harbor you can take a ferry to Grímsey Island and step into the Arctic Circle, admiring whales, puffins, and the magnificent north coast on the way. Every season offers something unique- particularly autumn when the country’s best wild blueberries can be found in the hills above the town and winter, when the area transforms into skiing heaven, with slopes for all skill levels. This hostel is full of life as the family is also running a nice quaint café in the town center. The café is named after three brothers famous in the old folk stories “Gísli, Eiríkur & Helgi”. The café has become popular for its decorations and design. The hostel offers a variety of different rooms, ideal for single travelers, couples, families, or groups of friends seeking a homey atmosphere.

  • Kaldi Brewery just outside the town offers tours every day upon request. They also have a spa, where you can literally bathe in beer.
  • Go whale watching, sea angling, or diving with the many groups that operate from Dalvik.
  • Take the ferry to Grímsey, an island on the edge of the Arctic Circle that is home to a hundred people and a million seabirds.
