There was lots of deferred maintenance and cleaning at this hostel. It ranges from almost non-functioning shower drain to leaves and similar debris all over the otherwise delightful patios to windows that are both filthy and some in need of replacement to the building having lots of spider web and dirt on it. Except for the window replacement, none of this is that difficult or expensive.

I really enjoy the common areas. The decor is nice, the TV has options, and staff was friendly and speedy. My bed wasn't made (unfolded blanket, used pillow) after check in so I switched my stuff with the bed above me. More outlets would be nice, or at least some surge protectors if there are going to be air fresheners plugged in. The hand dryer is loud and has a sign saying to use paper towels after quiet hours, but there are no paper towels.

There are no private rooms available. The dorms are usually tricky do too age differences. HI should post on all dorm rooms: Do not flip on over head lights at night! People are sleeping. Instruct them to use the flash light on their cell phones to rumble through their belongings. Another problem was vaping inside the building and vaping in the room! I did point this out to staff. I checked out early and did not receive refund. Hey it is Austin! I will not use again when in Austin.

Hi Ray - Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I want to apologize that your stay didn't meet your expectations. We do have 2 private rooms but they are in high demand a lot of the time. Sharing a communal living space can be difficult sometimes when people are turning on lights and not following the rules, generally. I will speak to the staff to try and have them better resolve these things in the future. Thanks again for your comments. We do really appreciate them.

HI Austin Hostel,

This Hostel is in a very beautiful park-like location along Lady Bird Lake and there is a walking/bake path along the lake that is great. It wasn't a party hostel like some others in town but did have live music on the patio on Friday night.
