Welcome to our hostel

Situated in one of Portland's most popular destinations, Portland Hawthorne Hostel offers quaint eateries, coffee houses, pubs, unique shops and the famous Bagdad Brewpub and Theatre. It's the perfect blend of urban pulse and friendly attitude. Our hostel does not have a 24-hour check-in desk and all guests must arrive before 10pm to complete check-in requirements.

The hostel offers a spacious kitchen and common rooms, comfortable beds and free Wi-Fi. Free Breakfast includes coffee/tea, all-u-can-make pancake, cereal or oatmeal with milk.

Outside there are front decks and a side yard for relaxing and people watching.

Please note: There is a neighborhood cat that hangs out mostly outside but occasionally comes into the foyer. It does not go anywhere else in the hostel.

Discounted bike rentals are available as well as (third-party) tours from the hostel to the Columbia Gorge, Mount St. Helens, whale watching and historic Portland. A quick trip to city attractions such as Powell's Books, the Old Town, weekend market, Washington Park and Willamette River Promenade are also recommended.

I really enjoyed my stay. The community dinner during my first night was yummy and fun. The handle on the shower on the main level is backwards (they know this) but the water never seems to get warm. I was cold and wet but stepped out and went to a shower on another floor. The dorm room I was in was pretty nice. I liked the comforters. The lighting left something to be desired and the room definitely needed to be aired out because it felt pretty hot and moist inside.

I'm so glad you enjoyed our community dinner night, which typically happens every Wednesday night, it is a great way to meet other travelers and get a tasty home cooked meal! We have had several professionals out to look at the shower and thus far no problems have been found, but I am bringing your feedback about the shower to the manager. Happy travels!

It's an excellent place to stay, very safe, wonderful staff, no weirdos, clean as hell, almost sickeningly ecologically friendly and there's a surprising amount of great places to eat in and around town. It is a little ways out of town though, a good 20-25 blocks from the city center, with only the bus nearby. Having said that, Hawthorne street is safe and there's some great food nearby.

Located in charming residential area. (But skip it if you want to be downtown partying.) Small, friendly, eco-friendly. I stayed in Willamette room just off kitchen; could get loud if it was busy, though not a problem for my stay. Tip for the Willamette Room: use the showers upstairs. Much more space, actual room, not just partitioned off shower stall. Lockers are in a back area w/doors that open to outside so don't feel as secure as I would like, but I had no problems.

Hi, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Totally hear your on the back bathroom. FYI- Next month, we are doing a remodel of the showers upstairs, so this may address and help give guests more improved options. Take Care, Talbot HI- Portland Hawthorne Hostel
