YHA Pittwater Eco occupies a 1920s timber building on the hillside above Morning Bay, deep inside Ku-ring-gai National Park. The single-level lodge has 8 rooms with 30 beds total, a lounge with log fireplace, and a verandah overlooking Pittwater where wallabies graze at dawn. Running entirely on rainwater tanks and solar hot water, the property has patchy phone reception and weather-dependent WiFi — deliberately disconnected from the digital world. A wheelbarrow waits at Halls Wharf to help haul your supplies up the steep 15-minute bush track.
This is the only accommodation within Ku-ring-gai National Park, 30km north of Sydney CBD but accessible only by ferry from Church Point. The last ferry leaves at 6:30pm weekends, 7:00pm weekdays — miss it and you'll need a water taxi. Aboriginal rock engravings lie 20 minutes' walk along the ridge, bushwalks lead to West Head lookout, and kayakers launch from the beach below. Possums rustle through the trees at night, goannas bask on the sun deck, and the dawn chorus starts with kookaburras.

30 beds across 8 rooms: 4-bed dorms, twin privates, family rooms, and doubles. All rooms share bathrooms — there's no en-suite option in this 1920s building. Bed linen is provided but bring a towel or hire one for $3. The rooms are basic but clean, with windows opening to bushland sounds. No lockers, but the isolated location means security isn't an issue. The lounge has a log fireplace for winter nights, and the verandah offers harbour views and hammocks for afternoon reading.

Directions
Getting here
From Sydney CBD take the Manly ferry from Circular Quay, then bus 199 to Mona Vale, then 156 to Church Point (90 minutes total). Or take the B-Line bus to Collaroy/Narrabeen, then 156 to Church Point. From Church Point ferry wharf, catch the ferry to Halls Wharf — last departure 6:30pm weekends, 7:00pm weekdays. Water taxis available after hours. From Halls Wharf, follow YHA markers uphill through bushland for 15 minutes. The track is steep and can be muddy after rain. Pack light — you'll be carrying everything uphill.
Parking info
Park at Church Point before taking the ferry. Paid parking available at the ferry wharf outside Pasadena restaurant. For free untimed parking, use Bakers Road car park — it's a 10-15 minute walk back to the ferry wharf. No vehicle access to the hostel itself.
