Essen

In the year 2023 Essen did it on place 6 at the poll „Best European Destinations“- and that even ahead of cities like London, Kopenhagen and Prag. But that isn`t surprising: Essen is an exciting city full of contrasts. In 2017 the city was certified by the EU-commission with the title „Green capital city of Europe“ but at the same time it looks back on a long industrial history. How can that be? Actually the city has a lot of mettles and green spaces available, which were arranged already 100 years ago. The Gruga-park, originated for the horticultural show in 1929, nowadays ranks among the most beautiful and biggest landscape parks of Europe. Likewise the Baldeneysee numbers among the highlights of the city. Originally a reservoir for the drinking water supply, it emerged fast to a popular local recreation area. Nowadays you can scull, surf, sail and go fishing there. Naturally at every city-trip to Essen a necessity is the visit of the UNESCO world heritage „Zeche Zollverein“.

Off to the nature- the youth hostel Essen

Just like the city itself also the surrounding of the youth hostel is characterized by green areas. The house is located beneath the Baldeneysee at the district Werden. The site as well as the terrific leisure-offer makes the youth hostel a popular destination for school classes. But also conference-guests appreciate the modern rooms with an own bath as well as the green and at the same time close-to-the-city site. Relaxed working with a view into the nature is ensured here. Cyclists not just enjoying the service of a bed&bike accommodation: the house is also located at 4 famous cycle trails in the Rhineland: at the „Kaiserroute“, the route of the industrial culture, the „Ruhrtalweg“ and the „German football route“.
