Welcome to New Zealand’s newest YHA!

Featuring 2 guest lounges and a communal kitchen, YHA Christchurch is located opposite the Arts Center, just 150 m from the Botanic Gardens and Hagley Park. You can enjoy a meal and relax in the lovely BBQ and garden area. There is a guest laundry on site. The guestrooms are clean and comfortable. Some rooms feature private bathroom facilities, others offer access to a shared bathroom. YHA Christchurch is a 5-minute walk from Cathedral Square and the RESTART Container Mall.

Our first night was in a room over the kitchen and the noise from the extractors was excessive all night, they never switched off. It was a hot day and windows had to be open. We upgraded to a room at the back which was lovely.

Great location and proximity to all points of interest in the downtown area. Hostel and room were quiet and secure. Hostel is also larger than most I've stayed in. There were lots of travelers coming and going. Great for business and activity but restrooms and early morning "noise" certainly take a toll. All was expected for hostel life. Despite the cons would definitely stay again.

Airport
Approx 10km from Christchurch International Airport.
Bus
The Airport Bus operates from 7am - 10pm approx. Please ask the Bus driver to indicate the Cambridge Tce / Worcester Street Bus stop and get off at this stop. Walk up 1 block to Hereford Street and turn right. You will find us through the next set of traffic lights on the left hand side - approx 5 min walk from the Bus stop. If your Bus takes you to the Central Station please ask the helpful information desk for directions to the YHA on Hereford Street
Taxi
Shuttle Buses operate 24 hrs and depart regularly from outside the International Arrivals and are the preferred choice to get into the City Center as they charge a set rate per person. They operate a door to door service. As we have 2 hostels in Christchurch please advise you are going to YHA Christchurch on Hereford Street
Car
Christchurch is busy repairing and rebuilding our city as a result of the 2010 / 2011 Earthquakes. This means that road closures and detours are very common. Download the YHA New Zealand travel app from the iTunes app store or on Google Play for Android phones to keep updated and find the easiest way to our hostel.
Rail
The Train Station is approx 3km from YHA Christchurch. Shuttle Buses meet the services and are the preferred choice to get you to the city center as they charge a set rate per person. From YHA Christchurch to the Train Station we can arrange you a free transfer. Please contact the hostel direct or arrange this service when you arrive.
