Arthostel Honkahovi

ArtHostel Honkahovi offers high-quality and truly unique hostel accommodation in Mänttä-Vilppula, also known as the Art Town of Finland. This culturally rich town is famous for its exceptional art scene, deep artistic heritage, and impressive architectural legacy. Honkahovi, designed by architect Jarl Eklund and completed in 1938, is a gem of functionalist architecture. Its timeless elegance, original details, and historical atmosphere make the building a destination in itself.

Originally built as a prestigious reception venue for heads of state, international dignitaries, and leading business figures, Honkahovi now warmly welcomes all travellers who appreciate quality, culture, and history. The building has been completely renovated with respect for sustainable development, including its interiors, lighting, and technical systems.

The accommodation combines homely comfort and storytelling charm—some rooms have private bathrooms, while others share communal facilities. In the morning, the Honkahovi library transforms into a cosy breakfast space, where guests can enjoy a self-catered breakfast surrounded by books or order a warm breakfast served at the nearby Mänttä Club. A fully equipped kitchen is also available for guests who wish to prepare their own meals.

The common areas showcase contemporary art in collaboration with local museums, presented in poster-like formats and rotating exhibitions. Honkahovi is part of the vibrant Art Town Mänttä, at the heart of which lie the Serlachius Museums – Gustaf and Gösta, among the most prominent and internationally recognized art institutions in Finland.

One of the highlights of the cultural year is the upcoming exhibition by British contemporary artist Keith Tyson, whose work has drawn global attention. The exhibition, titled Turning the World Inside Out, will run from 24 May to 26 October 2025 and offers fresh perspectives on contemporary art, making Mänttä an even more compelling destination for cultural travellers.

From the hostel’s courtyard, guests can follow the Lemmenpolku Trail, a scenic 2.5-kilometre lakeside path leading directly to the Gösta Art Museum, blending peaceful nature with world-class artistic experiences.

Located on the lakefront, the sauna offers the opportunity to enjoy an authentic Finnish sauna experience. The sauna accommodates up to ten people and is available for both overnight guests and external groups. Additional programs can be arranged for sauna visits, and the full experience is completed with a licensed bar and carefully curated service. For hostel guests, the sauna can be booked for 50 €/hour per room, while the rate for external groups is 250 € for 4 hours, including towels and shower products.

Lounas Café Miina, located in the hostel, serves a delicious weekday lunch buffet from 11:00 to 14:30, along with homemade pastries and quality coffee. Miina also provides high-quality catering and banquet services in a scenic and atmospheric setting amidst tall pines and lake views.

ArtHostel Honkahovi is a unique blend of high-standard accommodation, culture, history, and tranquil nature. You are warmly welcome to enjoy an atmosphere where quality, stories, and art come together.
