At every season Hellenthal is worth a journey. In the springtime, from the end of March to the beginning of May, you can observe in proximity to the Eifel-townlet a unique natural spectacle: then in the meadows valleys of the upper „Oleftal“ millions of wild growing „Gelbe Narzissen“ are blooming and transforming the landscape into a yellow sea of blossoms. But also in the summer, the autumn or even in the wintertime you will not get bored in the Eifel. The river dams Olef-, Rur- and Urftsee are offering terrific views; numerous hiking-paths such as the „wilderness-trail“ or the „Eifelsteig“ are inviting for hiking. You rather like to explore the nature on two wheels? At the municipal bicycle rental you can rent bicycles, mountainbikes and e-bikes. The cycle-path „Eifelhöhenroute“ is going past the youth hostel. The highlight of the surrounding and especially beloved from families is the game preserve Hellenthal with its famous bird of prey demonstration. Who has the courage to hold a real eagle on his arm? For the smallest there are approachable goats, sheeps and donkeys.

The youth hostel Hellenthal carries the title „experiential education and outdoor-centre“. Quite right! The roofed high rope course is unique in its kind in Germany- and is perfectly suitable for team-training or a climbing tour with the group. Any more sports? No problem: the outdoor-area of the old half-timber house is offering a reccy, a beachvolleyball-court and basketball hoops. Sport groups who are organizing their trainingcamp at us can additionally rent the sports hall of the community. And in the evening time? Then you can either relax in the cosy rooms or come together at the fireplaces for a companionable round.
