The small community Lindlar is located in the Bergische Land approx. 30 kilometres away from Cologne. Numerous touristical sights make Lindlar a popular holiday- and leisure destination. In the LVR open-air museum you will get thrilling insights into the life of the people 100 years ago. You can experience the wonderful oberbergische landscape in the frame of a hike. On the way beside animals and plants there are castle ruins, manor houses and chapels to explore. Beside several round-tours you have direct connection to the „Bergische Panoramasteig (scenic steep path)“. So far so well-known. But did you know too that in Lindlar one of the most modern waste treatments sites of Europe is located? In former days a pure rubbish dump, the Leppe dump is nowadays the research- and innovation centre „:metabolon“ for chemical change and environmental technologies. Here you can not just learn a lot about waste avoidance and waste recycling- in :metabolon you`ll find also Germany`s longest twin-slide, an asphalted trailpark and a 360 steps high observation platform which is granting a terrific view on the surrounding.
The youth hostel Lindlar is located quiete on a small height amidst the nature park Bergisches Land. As a learning-and experiential environment the team of the youth hostel places great importance to sustainability- not just with the catering but also with the programme-offer. In the house itself there`s always something going on! Children are exploring the huge outdoor area which is inviting for playing and frolicing around. Music groups are using the acoustical well-suited day rooms whilst sports groups decamp for the training in the nature. For further training units also the nearby indoor swimming pool and the 2T climbing- and boulderhall are well-suited.
