ItΓ€-Karjalan Kansanopisto is located on the shores of Lake Saimaa in Punkaharju, on the island of Vaahersalo, in the beautiful natural setting of Valoniemi. The journey from Punkaharju to the hostel is about 7 km towards Savonlinna. ItΓ€-Karjalan Kansanopisto also operates as a course and camp center during the summer.
At ItΓ€-Karjalan Kansanopisto, there are rooms for 1-3 people, and each set of at least two rooms has a shower and WC. Wheelchair users have access to a wheelchair ramp and accessible WC. The hostel provides well-equipped facilities for group meetings. Meals are available from breakfast to full board, but there’s also the option to prepare your own meals in the guest kitchen. A washing machine is also available for use.
Guests can rent a lakeside sauna and a fireplace room. There is also a barbecue area on the premises. The surrounding nature offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities and hiking.
In 2017, Punkaharju’s Harjutie (Harju Road) was named the Road of the Century. The road has a rich history, and along its route, you’ll find interesting tourist attractions, breathtaking landscapes, and stunning nature.
The cultural and sports offerings in the Savonlinna region are diverse: including opera festivals, ballet performances, art exhibitions, Sulkava Rowing Race, and the Mobile Phone Throwing World Championship.
