Tomintoul – The Smugglers Hostel

Tomintoul Hostel is a hidden gem in the Cairngorms National Park. Located in the highest village in the Scottish Highlands the hostel is a great location for basing your holiday or stopping off for a couple of nights.There are wonderful low level walking routes and hundreds of miles of cycling trails. Activities such as horse riding, mountain biking, fishing, skiing and snow boarding are available on the doorstep!The area is rich in history and heritage, with lots of amazing sites to visit including castles and ruins. Walk in the footsteps of whisky smugglers or relive the battle of glenlivet!In the heart of the Speyside Malt Whisky Region the area has numerous distilleries to visit and amazing whisky to sample!, The hostel has great facilities for the outdoor enthusiast with a well equipped bike shed, complete with tools and spares. The outside tap and hose allow you to wash bikes and outdoor kit onsite and the drying shed ensures that all your gear is dry in the morning ready for your next day’s adventure!We realise how important you find it to stay connected whilst on your travels so we provide FREE WIFI within the hostel. Getting to the hostel: The nearest airports are Inverness and Aberdeen. The citylink services connect to Aviemore from Glasgow Edinburgh or Inverness. A taxi from Aviemore will cost approximately £25. The hostel is located in a quiet location on the main street in Tomintoul. The hostel is on the right hand side of the main street when travelling south. The hostel has secure parking to the rear of the building or on street parking outside the front of the building. The nearest rail stations are either Aviemore Elgin or Keith. A taxi from any location will cost approximately £25.
