This rambling Victorian mansion with open fires is owned by the National Trust and stands in its own grounds between Elterwater and Grasmere. Close to the Langdale Pikes, it’s an ideal base for walkers wanting to explore the Langdale valleys. Getting to the hostel: From Ambleside follow the A593 to Coniston and the Langdales.
